Reality TV has become one of the biggest guilty pleasures for TV viewers around the globe. For the past few months, UK audiences have been glued to the telly awaiting the winners of talent competition shows, X Factor and Strictly.

X Factor earned four times as much media coverage as Strictly during the two weeks leading up to their respective finales, according to data from Outbrain’s network. But,Strictly won over the British audience, generating roughly the same volume of page views as X Factor, despite the disadvantage in number of stories.

While the media may have found X Factor more newsworthy, audiences were more engaged with the Strictly competition, showing that the media has limited influence over fan favorability.
