The polls are in and Bill de Blasio will be the first Democrat in two decades to serve as the mayor of New York City. Could this have been predicted?
Based on our data, consumption of content about the Democratic candidate far exceeded that of Joe Lhota, the Republican challenger, for all days but one during the week leading up to the election. The correlation beteen the election result and content consumption suggests content can, in fact, be predictive – not only did de Blasio win by a landslide in the polls, but he won decidedly online, too.
Will content be the next great indicator of how the public thinks?
