How We're Different

Outbrain looks beyond related links to help people find interesting content through personalized recommendations.

The world is brainwashed by relevancy

For years, content recommendations have been driven by relatedness. But we've found that the best way to deeply engage audiences is to tailor our recommendations for each and every person and instead serve up content that is interesting to them but not necessarily related.

What makes content interesting?

Many factors influence our recommendations, but they largely fall into 4 categories:

  • Popularity

    Trending and social popularity

  • Contextual

Related to the page you're on

  • Behavioral

Based on general audience behavior, i.e., people who read this also read that

  • Personal

Filtered for each person, not recommending something you've already seen

Engagement matters. Our #1 goal is to keep people happily clicking, reading & watching so we closely monitor the data from every single recommendation we make, analyzing two main factors:

The Click

Which headlines & pieces of content do people actually want to click on and consume?

This tells us which pieces of content are the most engaging to the audience, enabling us to serve up those links more often in order to keep people clicking, reading & watching even longer.

And it doesn't stop there. We're continually optimizing our recommendations in order to deliver the web's most engaging content to people (and as a result, also deliver the most engaged audience as possible to our partners).

Everybody wins!

Post-Click Satisfaction

Do people consume even more content on the site as a result of The Click? Read more? Watch longer?

The Click plus Post-Click Satisfaction equals Happy Reader
