Must-See Guide to Amsterdam for Affiliate Summit Europe

Must-See Guide to Amsterdam for Affiliate Summit Europe

The Affiliate Summit Europe conference is coming up soon. If you’re planning to head on over to Amsterdam this March 12 to 14,  it’s time to start thinking about how to round out your trip to include some of the city’s best sites and attractions. You may be traveling for business and networking, but that’s no reason not to check out the amazing culture, nature, nightlife and food of Amsterdam.

The Outbrain team will be exhibiting at Affiliate Summit too, so we’ve taken the opportunity to do a bit of research for you and pinpoint the top things to do in Amsterdam this March.

Check it out, and see you at the conference!

What Not to Miss in Amsterdam During Affiliate Summit Europe

It’s the “Venice of the North”, the bike capital of the world (850,000 bicycles and counting), the land of tulips and windmills. Ok, enough of the Amsterdam of guidebooks. If you’ve got some spare time during your Affiliate Summit stay, here’s a list of things you won’t want to miss. So let’s begin our Amsterdam tour:

1. Art & Culture

If art is your thing then don’t miss the Rembrandt exhibition at the Rijksmuseum. The national museum is displaying all its Rembrandt works for the first time, and with 22 paintings, 60 drawings, and 300 prints, you’ll be sure to get your Rembrandt fix. Book advance tickets here.

If you prefer modern to classic,  then the Body Worlds exhibition might be for you. It’s the world-famous collection of real human anatomical displays, preserved by the technique of plastination. After traveling the world, the exhibition has now taken up permanent residence in Amsterdam. The Happiness Project explores how happiness affects our bodies and wellbeing. Advance purchase your tickets online for fast track entry. Now that’s happiness!

Want to go back to the future? Check out the virtual reality exhibition at the National Maritime Museum, where you can go back in time using VR and see the bustling Amsterdam Harbor during the Dutch Golden Age with your own eyes. The “Dare to Discover – A VR Journey” exhibition is free, so make sure to book in advance here.

2. Nature & History

Did you know that 70% of commercially sold flowers come from the Netherlands? No trip to Amsterdam is complete without the local flower-y experience. Luckily, there are many to choose from, whether it’s a trip outside of the city to the famous Flower Strip, or even a visit to FloraHolland flower production and trading center.  The Affiliate Summit is a bit early this year for a visit to the Keukenhof Gardens, known as the “Garden of Europe” with 7 million flowers to see. The gardens only open on March 19, but if you happen to be extending your stay after the summit, it’s definitely worth a visit.

No time to get out of the city? Never mind – enjoy a bit of cosmopolitan-style nature with a cruise on one of Amsterdam’s famous canals. There are loads of tours and boats to choose from. With amazing city views from the water, it’s a great way to learn about the history of Amsterdam from different angles. Amsterdam has 165 canals covering 50 kilometers, so it’s also a fun way to get around and see the sites. Check out some cruise options here.

3. Nightlife

Amsterdam is famous for its eclectic nightlife, with something for everyone. The city attracts the world’s top DJs, and whether your taste is mass rave or intimate club, you’ll find the right venue and vibe for you. Amsterdam is big on the dance music scene, with the world’s largest Dance Music festival held every October. During your stay for the Affiliate Summit, enjoy a taste of the club scene in Amsterdam by starting with this list of the top clubs. Also, check out the Amsterdam Nightlife Ticket if you want to make the most of your nightlife experience.

4. Food & Drink

With so many culinary options to choose from in Amsterdam, this list of the city’s best 22 restaurants by Conde Nast is a good place to start. If you’re vegan or vegetarian, you’re in luck – there’s a boom in healthy natural eating in Amsterdam with loads of vegan options to choose from. Or go for something a bit more original, like a Cocktail Canal Cruise, or visit a traditional Dutch pub known as a Brown Cafe. The name apparently comes from the dark wood interiors and stained surfaces caused by years of smoking. Enjoy this quintessentially Amsterdam experience, and get a chance to chat with the locals.

Amsterdam is a great place to visit, but let’s not forget the reason for your trip – the Affiliate Summit Europe is one of the best affiliate conferences you can attend this year.

Outbrain will be there too, so pop by and say hello and check out all the latest tech and features in native advertising and content discovery.
