Understanding the Session Optimization Strategy

What is the Session Optimization strategy?

The Session Optimization strategy is designed to improve your website’s user engagement and Total Publisher Revenue. By implementing a new feed blend setup – specifically increasing the share of editorial content on the first page – we aim to boost user engagement, drive more page views, and ultimately, your monetization performance across all demand sources.

Why is this important?

By testing this new setup on a portion of your traffic, we’ll be able to identify whether changing the feed’s ad/editorial ratio can lead to:

  • More page views
  • Longer sessions
  • Higher total revenue

These gains come from encouraging readers to stay on your site longer and view more content, which increases the opportunity for monetization from both Teads and your other demand partners.

How does it work?

  • We run an A/B test comparing your default setup with the new setup that prioritizes a higher share of editorial content on the first page to drive engagement.
  • By default, the new setup is launched on 20% of your traffic to limit risk and allow a fair comparison.
  • The performance is monitored in real-time and presented clearly in your dashboard.

Based on the results, you can choose to enable the new setup across a higher % of inventory, to maximize the gains.

How are the results measured?

You can track performance of the Session Optimization strategy by comparing the new setup vs default setup across metrics like:

  • Total Incremental Revenue: Estimated uplift if the new setup is applied to 100% of your traffic.
  • Page Views Lift: Increase in user engagement.
  • Revenue Per Session (RPS): Deeper engagement leads to more monetization opportunities across the entire user session.

These projections are based on an estimated Average Total Page RPM. You can adjust your Average Total Page RPM in the dashboard to reflect more accurate revenue estimates.

What should I do next?

If the results look promising, we recommend enabling the new setup across a higher percentage of your site traffic to scale the success.
