Brainpower: How Do Browser Preferences Vary Globally?

|Gabie Kur

The browser we use has a big impact on the way we experience and consume content. We recently dug into our data for insight into which browsers win the title of “Favorite” and how preferences shift as we look at different parts of the globe.

average market share

We looked at the page view breakdown from a day’s worth of data (Tuesday, July 2, 2013) within 50 countries. When viewing average market share of each browser (i.e., average percentage of national page views), here’s what we found:

• Chrome was crowned favorite in 34 out of the 50 countries (i.e., 68%)

• Internet Explorer is still the most popular browser in some of the largest countries: the United States, Canada and Australia

• Safari holds the largest market share (over 25%) in Singapore, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Puerto Rico and Switzerland
