Sunday’s 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards brought together most of Hollywood’s biggest stars and kicked off an annual debate on the best movies and performances of the year. So we looked into data from over 11,000 stories published to our network about the nominees, and pulled together what content creation and consumption would have chosen as the winners.

When the winners were revealed, it was clear to see that while content may be king, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association had their own ideas for who deserves the statues. The HFPA strayed from popular opinion when winners seemed “obvious,” but aligned with the media when winners were “tougher to call.” So for the next award show, if the winner seems too obvious, think again.
